....that is, the early 80's and some.
Last night Jim took me on a date...to another town (2 1/2 hours away), to another time (was it the 70s or the 80s?). He surprised me with perfume, a road trip, dinner and a rock concert. We, along with dear friends, "were rock-in in-to the night" with 38 Special, REO Speedwagon and Styx. It was a long afternoon/evening, but we had fun listening to bands we enjoyed as kids. Funny, when I "go back" in time, it always makes me so grateful for just where God has brought me.
I repeat: I like now.
And as our friends so aptly put it,  "When we woke up this morning, we felt like we'd been run over by a speedwagon full of 38 specials and styx!"

Back then....and now.
This weekend we traveled home for my 20th year high school reunion. What fun! Enjoy some "then...and now" pictures!
Okay, so laugh now. We were the Demons. I know. That is hard for a Christian to reconcile. Still, the mascot comes from the formal name of our school, "Florida State University Demonstrative Research School," which we lovingly called Florida High School. However, now, the name has changed to Florida State University School, the school mascot no longer carries the evil connotation of being Demons (now Seminoles, or Baby Seminoles....how lame), and, to boot, the school grounds as we knew it no longer even exists! It is now the FSU School of Medicine! ARGH!
We had a nice turn out...what fun to see old classmates! Almost half of our "89 in '89" graduates attended one or both evenings.

A Lord of the Rings Challenge
"The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the road has gone,
And i must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say."
While looking about online the other day, I (the Elf) found an amazingly cool website! The owners of this site had created a little thing called the Eowyn Challenge, inspiring people to live a healthy lifestyle. These people, along with the help of Karen Wynn Fonstad, author of the Atlas of Middle Earth, had meticulously gone through the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings and recorded the milage of the characters on their specific journeys. Now they are challenging people to essentially walk the same distances as the characters! Now, this is no easy feat, as you Lord of the Rings fans out there know. For example: to get from Hobbiton to Rivendell alone took a month and was about 450 miles (granted, they had ponies part of the way)!
Anyways, there are two very avid Middle Earth fans in this household (Mama and the Elf) and these fans needed some motivation to get moving...so now Mama and I are on the journey of a lifetime (cause it really is gonna take a lifetime). :)
Edit: Mama and I have been doing this Challenge since May 18. When I counted after our walk yesterday morning, we had already done 29 miles! Praise God! Now the trick is to see how long this lasts!

So Emmy Xiang, what are you....
....going to do when you turn 5 this weekend?
"Umm.....I'm going to My China."
That's right, folks. We're taking her back. To China. Sorta.
Destination: China, via Epcot, World Showcase.
Apparently the REAL China won't take her back. Jim says that's because it's not big enough for her. It's a good thing, too, 'cause we're not giving her back. She's ours. OURS. Isn't that right, Precious?!?

A picture's worth a thousand words....
And aren't you glad about that? Whew! So let these pictures tell of life in the Brown family of late. But first, a brief overview:
We've worked a bit and played some (and wii've played some more); built some things and disassembled others; spent leisure time with family and visited briefly with old friends.
We've mourned the loss of a cousin and celebrated birthdays....the day one became a teenager as well as the new life of a nephew. We've cried and prayed with friends who lost most everything in a house fire and reminded ourselves of the riches that we have because of our Heavenly Father—and these can't be destroyed.
We've enjoyed the beauty of God's creation, marveled at the working of the human body as well as felt the limitations of these bodily vessels. We learned some history and visited historical sites; we've been taught some things, experienced and acted out others and tried to lend a hand when we could, to help someone else.
Heck, we even cheered on Frodo as he walked that long path (again).
Throughout, it is our prayer that we don't lose sight of the reason we're here on this earth: to glorify the One True God, and to enjoy Him....forever.
