The mini-Marathon...a success!

As they sing in Oklahoma, "Oh, what a beautiful mor-nin'! Oh, what a beautiful day!" God was so kind to have given us such delightful weather and such favor and blessing upon the activities of the morning! To Him be the glory!

Here are some nice photos of the day (thanks, Lynda!):

Our Katie, or Ladybug, the mini-Marathon creator, organizer and administrator did a fine job with the entire event. With very little help (and that was mere delegation!) she created the theme, logo, and registration forms, ordered t-shirts, solicited and purchased awards, door prizes and food, mapped out a 2.62 mile course, sent helpful reminders and tips to her registrants, organized course monitors and facilitated the race! WHEW! Why did she do it? It was part of "the challenge." Our friends, the Berrys, introduced us to "the challenge," which is presented to our daughters on each's 12th birthday. She was asked to complete tasks for the purpose of growing in the following areas: sprititual disciplines, physically and creatively strong, and in life skills, service to others and relationships. Jane Ellen, the Elf, also participated in a challenge when she turned 12...and Lord willing, so will the Pooch and EX. As for Katie, one task was to plan and execute a "fun run." And she did a bang-up job! I think she'll now officially be allowed to turn 13!

Thank you to all of our friends and family who particpated...and especially those who pitched in to help out! You made it very special for our Katie!

The "Dancey Dancers'" Spring Formal

Last weekend, we enjoyed a celebration of sorts. Jane Ellen, the Elf, with several friends, has enjoyed bi-monthly fellowship: Friday evenings with the Dancey Dancers Dance Club (quite a mouthful!). A brother and sister team taught ballroom dancing to seven other "couples" (which were mostly siblings, cousins and ocassionally just "friends"). What fun these kids had. Wish I'd gone to the lessons just for the laughs they shared!

The culmination of their classes was a Spring Formal Dance. The teens did all of the planning, decorating, and food prep. They even helped their old moms and dads (and younger siblings) learn a dance step or two. We gathered for a nice supper out at a local restaurant and then spent a pleasant evening dancing the Waltz, the Salsa, the Fox Trot, the Tango...and just for fun, the Virginia Reel.

Thanks to Rachel and Joel for a fun year of cuttin' the rug....(and thanks to the professional team at "Day" Care for babysitting!).

Daddy gets grass...

This weekend we had to go out of town for a funeral. Here is a little dialogue between Emmy and Mom at a gas station.

Emmy- "Mommy, why is Daddy getting grass?"
Mom- "He's getting gas, not grass."
Emmy- "I don't know what you're talking about!"

Funny...

I posted this on my blog, too. But in case you didn't see it, I put it on our family blog. Enjoy!

Here is something that really happened to me and my mom yesterday:

We had to go to Ft. Walton for our weekly allergy shots. While we were there we decided to go to Walgreens for some good deals. The lady who checked us out was really sweet, but her hair and make up were a bit "out- there". She had the thickest and clumpiest mascara I have EVER seen... and I've seen some clumpy mascara before. This was not the first time. Her hair sort of went in a fountain on the top of her head with some hanging down, but is was all REALLY poofy and curly. Like 90s hair type poofy!
Later, in the evening, me and mom were washing dishes and I said to her, "Mom, did you realize that the lady who helped us at Walgreens was a Beauty Advisor?"

:)

Check it out....

Jim's at it again. He's recording life as it happens. To be more precise, the life of a bug.

Jump on over to the new blog: A Bug's Life.

It's gonna be a slow ride.
